– Ward Janssen, Maasland Eieren, on why he opted to work with POSETRON.
Imagine being a business manager, about to go on holiday, when you receive a call informing you that all systems have come to a standstill due to a power cut. That’s exactly what happened to Ward Janssen in 2022.
In a company that packs and distributes 4 million eggs a week (10% of which come from its own 60,000 laying hens, with the rest sourced from other poultry farmers across Belgium), this causes a massive delay. “Due to the slow switchover to the emergency generators, our systems shut down, requiring a complete restart. Our specialised machines can detect hairline cracks in eggs, which is how we guarantee the quality of the eggs we distribute. But the software needed to connect these machines is delicate.”
“After that power cut, I started thinking about possible solutions. I then got in touch with Raf and Frank from POSETRON. They listened to my story and came up with a suitable solution tailored to my business. What’s more, their own control programme was innovative and allowed me to use the solar energy I generate efficiently.”
We proposed a 100 kW | 299 kWh hybrid battery system to Ward, enabling him to make smart use of the energy he generates himself during production (Maasland Eieren operates during the day shift, and therefore during the more expensive peak periods), and to feed the surplus back into the grid at the right moments. In addition, we installed the same amount of PV as he had had in place since 2011. This new PV was connected directly to the DC circuit, ensuring it continues to generate power in the event of a new power cut. This increased Maasland Eieren’s independence and energy security.
“Since installing my battery, we’ve been drawing significantly less electricity from the grid each year. This way, we’re working towards sustainability whilst saving money at the same time. It’s a win-win situation for us.”
